ROCHESTER, Minn. – People who travel on Highway 14 in Rochester will be detoured Nov. 9-13 while railroad crews replace the rail crossing east of Broadway Avenue South, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The closure of Highway 14 east of Broadway Avenue South in Rochester in both directions is scheduled to begin at 5 a.m., Monday, Nov. 9 and reopen Friday, Nov. 13, weather permitting. Railroad crews from CPKC will be replacing the rail crossing while the road is closed.
- If you are driving east on Highway 14 (12th Street Southeast) approaching Broadway, you will turn south (right) on Broadway and turn east (left) on 16th Street Southeast and then north (left) on 3rd Avenue Southeast to reconnect with Highway 14. Westbound traffic will follow the route in reverse. Traffic on Broadway wanting to go east on Highway 14 will follow the boundaries of Graham Park (Olmsted County Fairgrounds).
- If you are walking near Highway 14 and want to continue east, you will be directed north on Broadway turn east (right) to 9th Street Southeast to 3rd Avenue Southeast, where you’ll turn south (right) to connect to Highway 14. The west pedestrian detour is the reverse.
- If you are bicycling to the east via Highway 14, you will travel north to Broadway to turn east (right) onto 9th Street Southeast and go to 8th Avenue Southeast, where you turn south (right) to reconnect with Highway 14. The westward detour is in reverse.
The railroad’s work is being done now so it won’t conflict with the reconstruction in 2027 of the Highway 14 and Broadway intersection. You can learn more about that project by going to the project’s website.
